About Us!

Mission

Our Mission:
To be a fellowship of believers that purpose to know God through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and to equip believers through discipleship training and the showing of God's love, as we strive to reach a lost world through obedience to the Great Commission:

“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” Matthew 28:19 - 20

Vision

Our Vision: To be a spirit-filled, multi-cultural church, impacting our city, our nation and our world through Bible teaching, leadership training and church planting.

History

The UNION Story

Our story began with the (late) Rev. Bennie Lee Houston and 18 fellow believers met at the home of Bro. & Sis. Warren; Minnie Hawkins.  On

Sunday, May 6, 1984, we met at 810 Union Street South, and were officially organized by the (late) Rev. W. J. Glover, then moderator of the South Florida Progressive Missionary Baptist Association. Rev. Houston was called our 1 st pastor and the name "Union Missionary Baptist Church" was chosen for it was all about "UNITY". In 1987 we joined the Union Foreign Association of Missionary Baptist Churches and continued to grow spiritually.

On March 24, 1991 Pastor Houston led the church in a move from Union Street to 3012 18th Avenue South. But our moving was not over.

Rev. Houston dutifully fulfilled his calling until his health began to fail, yet he fought on, giving leadership through Rev. Jerry B. Alexander, Sr., whom he appointed as his pastoral assistant in November 1991.

It was two years later on April 30, 1993 that the Lord called Pastor Houston home.

He had fought the good fight; he had kept the faith and the Lord said, come, receive your reward and rest from your labor. We thank God for Pastor Houston’s love and leadership.

On June 11, 1993, the church met and unanimously called Rev. Jerry B. Alexander, Sr. as the church’s 2nd Pastor, and on Sunday, July 25, 1993 Pastor Alexander was officially installed.

Under Pastor Alexander’s leadership, the following has occurred:

  • 1993 the church was incorporated
  • We joined the South Florida Progressive Missionary Baptist Association, Rev. Joseph Gordon, moderator
  • We spent several years moving from place to place, looking for a home
  • God bless us with the purchase of land at our present location
  • Ground was broken in 1995; We entered our new building in 1996
  • The Men's Ministry of Northeast Park Baptist Church, provided labor and materials to aid us
  • New ministries were organized
  • 2006 a 19 passenger bus was purchased
  • 2012 our Deacon Ministry had grown to 5 men
  • 2015 Minister Lewis Cason became the first minister licensed by Pastor Alexander
  • Lord blessed us with the addition of Rev. Edward Booker and his wife, Sister Regina Booker
  • 2016 Deacon Dwayne Perkins was licensed as a minister
  • November 2018 we burned our mortgage!
